Phil Champion, the patriarch of Denton-Powell, began his career in metalwork at just 15 years old, as an apprentice welder fabricator in a factory producing road surfacing machinery. From these early days, he developed hands-on expertise across a wide range of metal fabrication skills.
Building on this foundation, Phil went on to establish his own metal fabrication company, initially producing farm machinery and ornamental ironwork. His commitment to quality and innovation quickly set his business apart.
The company’s growth accelerated through projects with the civil engineering division of Balfour Beatty, where Denton-Powell fabricated railings, road bridge expansion joints, and welded steel piles into the ground. The team also carried out extensive repair work on earthmoving and excavation machinery for clients such as Kelston Sparkes.
A Legacy of Quality and Innovation
As the business evolved, it expanded into structural steelwork, including metal staircases, mezzanine floors, and custom fabricated steel structures, laying the foundation for the family-run business that continues to thrive today.
